Quando leggi sulla cannabis ricreativa hanno fatto la loro prima apparizione sulle schede elettorali nel 2012, voci frenetiche intorno al tema del consumo di cannabis nei minorenni si sono subito diffuse.
La prova delle indagini nazionali sul consumo è stata interpretata in vari modi dagli analisti. Allora cosa sta realmente accadendo, e, soprattutto, in che modo queste informazioni influenzano la politica sulle droghe e l’educazione?
Uso di Cannabis tra i minorenni
Ogni anno un sondaggio chiamato Monitoring the Future controlla oltre 40.000 studenti delle scuole superiori a livello nazionale sulle loro abitudini di consumo di sostanze. Ecco come le cose sono cambiate dal 1996:

Come indicato nella tabella, il consumo di cannabis tra i liceali è sceso di colpo intorno al 2008 e si è lentamente insinuato verso l’alto negli ultimi anni. Tuttavia, si noterà una tendenza al ribasso ancora una volta dopo il 2013. Dal 1975, oltre l’80% dei liceali hanno detto che la cannabis è facile da ottenere , e che la cifra è scesa solo negli ultimi anni. Non è difficile per un adolescente a trovare un gancio, e le aziende legali con un limite di età hanno solo più probabilità di schiacciare le aziende del mercato nero che non si preoccupano se i clienti sono sotto i 21 anni.
Gli Stati con leggi mediche e ricreative sulla marijuana vedono comunque i più alti tassi di consumo degli adolescenti, ma una più accurata analisi con le prove di causa-effetto non sostiene questo. Mentre i dati di Washington Post e analista di politica Christopher Ingraham dice:
“Controllo di vari singoli livelli, la scuola-livello e Stato a livello di fattori di rischio, i bambini non erano più probabilità di riportare l’uso di marijuana dopo la promulgazione di leggi sulla marijuana medica di quanto non fossero prima che … .In realtà, hanno anche osservato un aumento statisticamente significativo della diminuizione dell’uso tra [ottavo] livellatrici dopo il passaggio delle leggi sulla marijuana medica “.
Correlazione tra leggi ricreative e approvazione dell’uso tra adolescenti?
Quindi, se l’accesso legale alla cannabis non è il colpevole, potrebbe essere l’atteggiamento di flessione che li precede? Abbiamo chiesto a Jospeh Palamar, PhD, MPH , dal Dipartimento di salute della popolazione della NYU, per far luce sulla connessione.

Un’altra analisi pubblicata nel mese scorso American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse ha trovato che i tassi di approvazione di cannabis sono diminuiti considerevolmente tra gli studenti dai 12 ai 14, mentre gli intervistati più anziani (età da 18 a 25) hanno mostrato forti aumenti di approvazione dal 2002. Infatti abbiamo osservato un significativo aumento di disapprovazione e una diminuzione sia dell’uso nell’anno e la durata tra questo importante sottogruppo di sviluppo “.
Come possiamo veramente scoraggiare l’uso ai minorenni?
Il vero problema è che gli effetti negativi della marijuana sono stati storicamente drammaticamente sopravvalutati.

Fino ad allora tutto ciò che possiamo fare è promuovere conversazioni oneste supportate dalla scienza sugli impatti della cannabis sul cervello in via di sviluppo più giovani.
